TONE3000 just released its own NAM plug-in! FOR FREE!

Well...
This was probably inevitable. 😄
TONE3000 has become one of the most important places for Neural Amp Modeler captures.
And now the entire library basically lives inside its own plug-in.
No more downloading NAM files?
This is probably the biggest deal.
Until now, the typical NAM workflow looked something like this:
Find a capture.
Download it.
Unzip it.
Put it somewhere.
Load it into a NAM player.
Try it.
Don't like it?
Repeat. 😄
The new TONE3000 Plugin removes most of this process.
You can browse the huge TONE3000 library directly inside the plug-in, select a tone and start playing.
Simple.
And this is exactly what NAM needed.
But it is much more than a NAM player
This surprised me.
You can stack multiple NAM captures and IRs into complete signal chains.
Pedal → Amp → Cab?
Sure.
But you can go much further.
You can use multiple NAM and IR blocks, create dual chains, work in stereo, pan the chains, spread them and even automatically align and balance them.
So you can build some pretty crazy rigs inside one plug-in.
And because NAM can capture much more than guitar amps, this could actually be interesting outside the guitar world too.
NAM captures of analog preamps, compressors, saturation boxes or other studio hardware suddenly become much easier to combine into complete processing chains.
That opens some interesting possibilities.
NAM A2 inside
Of course, the plug-in is built around the new NAM Architecture 2.
You can choose between:
A2-Lite → lower CPU consumption
A2-Full → maximum accuracy
And you can even combine Lite and Full blocks inside the same chain.
That could be extremely useful when running several NAM captures in one project.
Some surprisingly serious features
This is not just a simple browser with a NAM loader.
There is also:
Calibration.
Normalization.
Oversampling up to 8×.
MIDI mapping.
Per-block parametric EQ.
Global EQ.
Stereo processing.
Multi-core processing.
Presets.
Tuner.
And you can still drag your own NAM and IR files directly into the plug-in.

What about NAM RIG?
Just recently I wrote about NAM RIG, another excellent free NAM player with direct TONE3000 integration.
So...
Which one is better?
I don't think there is a simple answer yet.
They actually approach the same idea from two different directions.
NAM RIG feels more like a traditional guitar amp sim.
You get a familiar signal chain:
Gate → Gain → Pedal → Amp → Cab → Post-EQ.
Load your tones.
Build a rig.
Play.
Simple.
And that seems to be one of its biggest strengths.
Early user reactions praised NAM RIG mainly for its intuitive workflow and easy access to TONE3000 models, favorites, recently viewed tones and even private captures.
TONE3000 Plugin feels more like a modular NAM workstation.
Instead of a fixed guitar-oriented signal chain, you can stack multiple NAM and IR blocks, reorder them, create dual chains and work in stereo.
This makes it MUCH more flexible.
Stereo support in particular is already getting attention from users.
And I think this is where the difference between these two plug-ins becomes really interesting.
NAM RIG → traditional guitar rig.
TONE3000 → modular NAM playground.
If I simply want:
Pedal → Amp → Cab
...NAM RIG might actually be the faster and more comfortable option.
If I want to experiment with multiple captures, parallel processing, stereo rigs or captured studio hardware...
TONE3000 suddenly becomes much more interesting.
There have already been some criticisms of NAM RIG – particularly around calibration workflow and IR browsing.
TONE3000 is brand new, so I am sure its own list of quirks will appear pretty quickly too. 😄
I definitely need to test these two properly side by side.
And the price?
Free.
Again. 😄
The TONE3000 Plugin is also open source and available for Windows, macOS and Linux.
And the format support is pretty impressive:
VST3.
AU.
AAX.
CLAP.
LV2.
And standalone.
That's quite a package for €0.
Is there a catch?
A few things.
At the moment, the plug-in is focused mainly on NAM captures and IRs.
So don't expect a complete Helix / AmpliTube style ecosystem full of delays, reverbs, modulation effects and other toys.
This probably doesn't matter much inside a DAW.
I already have dozens of excellent plug-ins for that.
But for standalone playing, I would definitely like to see at least some basic delay, reverb and modulation effects added in the future.
And the plug-in is brand new.
Some users are already reporting small workflow issues and connectivity/login problems.
So I would expect quite a few updates over the next months.
The real NAM revolution might actually be workflow
And this is probably the most interesting part for me.
NAM has always had incredible potential.
The biggest problem was never really the sound.
It was the workflow.
Having hundreds of thousands of captures available is amazing...
Until you have to find them, download them, organize them and remember what all those files actually are. 😄
And suddenly we have tools like NAM RIG and now the official TONE3000 Plugin.
You search.
You click.
You play.
That's a MUCH better experience.
And I think this could be more important for the future of NAM than another tiny improvement in capture accuracy.
Because great technology is nice.
But great technology that is actually easy to use?
That's when things get really interesting.
Could TONE3000 become the new default NAM plug-in?
